Beautiful and desirable quartersawn tiger oak 3 stack Globe Wernicke stacking barrister bookcase with the coveted drawer in the base. This bookcase is grade "299" designating tiger oak.
The sides of the sections have the metal bands used to secure other bookcases side by side. This style is known as the Bullnose, or Ogee and also Waterfall or Rolltop top. It also has a gracefully curving base as well.
All three bookcase sections are different heights giving you lots of options for your book or collectible needs. The heights of the sections are as follows. One is 8 12/" tall, the next is 10 1/4" tall and the largest is 12 tall.
The depth of all of the sections is 9 1/2 inside. The drawer is dovetailed construction front and back. The drawer is 4" tall inside, 31" wide and 10 1/4 from front to back. This bookcase dates to the 1910-15 period. Back in the 1970's (one mirror has a 1974 date stamp) an owner added mirrors to the back panels.
They were probably using this as a display case and wanted to see their collectibles from all angles. These are just held in by clips and are removable.
I have taken pictures with and without the mirrors. These mirrors helped save the back panels from wear over the last 50 years! I take all of my pictures outside so that any defects can be seen and to highlight the fabulous wood grain. The only real wear is the shelves which held the books.
Virtually all of these 100 year old bookcases are going to have some finish wear from sliding books in and out over the years. This bookcase looks a bit better on the inside than is usually found. This bookcase is available for local pick-up. Also please contact me if you have particular barrister needs such as how many sections or style or wood finishes. I can probably find what you need. Please check out all of my bookcases. I will usually have at least a half dozen listed. The item "Antique GLOBE WERNICKE QUARTERSAWN TIGER OAK BARRISTER STACKING BOOKCASE" is in sale since Sunday, March 14, 2021.
