Antique Quartersawn "Tiger" Oak Serpentine Front Dresser w/4 Drawers. Gorgeous, antique dresser salvaged from an old home in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Except for the side panels, drawer fronts, and backing; the dresser is made of solid quartersawn oak. The rest are oak and possibly another hardwood veneered with quartersawn oak. It has an elegant serpentine front design, with curvy, cabriole legs.

Notice the lovely, decorative appliques along the bottom edge of the bottom drawer The dresser sits on 4 wooden casters. There are 4 drawers: 2 short and narrow on top and 2 tall and wide underneath. All of the drawers have functional locks, and we found 1 key to operate the top-left drawer's lock, and another key that operates the rest.

Since most people don't need keys, we're not including them to keep the price down. All of the drawers have solid brass drop pulls, except for the bottom drawer which is missing a handle.

Our carpenter removed each drawer and closely inspected them as well as the internal structure of the dresser. A couple of the drawers were coming apart at the dovetails and the bottoms were loose, so he reinforced the drawers with glue and finish (brad) nails. The top is comprised of 5 boards glued together and fastened to the body of the dresser. It's natural for them to separate from each other over time. He re-secured them using modern glue, which is superior in every way to the old, hide glue that they used to use.

There was nothing else for him to repair. The main blemish is the strip of veneer that is missing from the lower, left side of the panel on the left side of the dresser. Although the area could be re-veneered, the whole panel would need to be refinished.

The easiest and least costly option would be to place the dresser near a wall that would conceal the blemish. There is also a small piece of decorative applique that broke off of the bottom right corner of the bottom dresser. Otherwise, the dresser only has the typical nicks, scratches, and spots of worn finish here and there that you would expect to find on a nearly 100-year old piece of furniture.

Aside from these cosmetic blemishes, the piece is in excellent, structural condition. This piece is strong, sturdy, and is ready for another lifetime or service.
