Absolutely gorgeous RJ Horner Victorian 10 piece quarter sawn oak dining room suite, beautifully carved and elegant in style and substance. The period between 1880 and 1920 is often regarded as thegolden age of American furniture craftsmanship, not only for the quality of the pieces, but also for the characteristic golden lacquers applied to finished furnishings. Overall prosperity following the Civil War gave rise to wealthier families, larger homes and, hence, a desire for larger, more ornate furnishings for those homes. Oak became popular during this time, due to a shortage of available walnut. In particular, the NewYork firm of Robert J.

Horner is known for creating some of the greatest handcrafted oak furnishings of this period. Horner was a clerk at a curtain shop before opening his furnishing business in 1885. Although the firm lasted only 30 years, the pieces that were produced during that time displayed high-level carving and hand craftsmanship that was seldom seen during the Victorian Age, which was largely marked by mechanized work and industrialism.

Today, items crafted by Horner are highly desirable and sought after by collectors of premium Victorian furniture. The 60 inch table features a beautiful quarter sawn oak top with a fully carved apron, resting on a paw footed split pedestal base. Nine 12 matching leaves are included, resting in a slotted wooden case for storage, as well as padded folding covers for the table. The sideboard is massive and measures 7 feet long by 5 foot tall.

The upper portion features intricately carved lions heads with a full length built-in mirror. Main portion has heavily carved solid oak drawers with an incredible full length solid-piece carved 12 tall drawer.

Fold down front center door reveals four beautiful dark wood serving trays. There are padded folding covers for this piece, and ALL the keys work in this sideboard!! The China "Closet" features a curved front bowed glass exterior and is almost 6 foot tall by 4 foot wide by 2 feet deep. It is heavily carved with lions heads and is paw footed. The large door fits perfectly, has its key, and there are five solid wood shelves with this piece. The rear mirror is spotless and full height. This item alone could be the centerpiece of anyone's antique furniture collection and would prominently display all of your Historical China or any collectible beautifully! The buffet/server is also intricately carved and features a full length front solid wood drawer.

It is 4 feet long by 3 feet tall by 22 inches deep. Six ornately carved chairs have claw feet with heavily carved seat backs with detailed flanking and padded seat area. The arm chair measures 54" tall by 24"wide by 22", deep seat height 20", side chairs measure 49" tall by 22" wide by 20" deep, with a seat height of 20". I cannot adequately describe how incredible this dining room set looks in its natural setting.
