This is a superb antique Victorian Oak picture frame, handbuilt from quality Oak It is a classic Victorian frame design with a'sully-profile', so the border is canted into the sight having the effect of drawing your eye into the picture The'tiger-stripe' grain & patina are really good in this frame & the side of the frame has a pleasing groove running the whole length I would date it a guess to about 1880 This type of Oak frame is often referred to mainly in the U. As'Quarter-sawn' Oak or Mission It is definitely the work of a master frame-maker cum carpenter A quintessential 19th Century Victorian frame & constructed entirely by hand it has a real feel of late 19th Century hand-made'Arts & Crafts' style.
