We have assigned a RJ Horner/Karpen attribution to this. It clearly fits both of these master craftsman's shops works. Horner attributions are played fast & loose by dealers.

Kollh and bares a number 33 stamp. This is the model number of the piece and we believe Kohll was either one of Horner or Karpen's master cabinet makers.

We have handled numerous Horner, Flint, Karpen, P&S, etc. Over the last 30 years. New York City pieces of this period pretty much all followed this style and influence. This is simply a magnificent 19th Century tiger oak bookcase of the highest discipline of quality in Victorian period furniture of the American Rocco Revival movement. It is embellished with two angelic Putti type bodied carvings that are deeply and finely formed on each the right and left top corners of the piece.

The center frieze of the bookcase is accented with Griffins and North Wind faces surrounded in a lovely array of decorative foliage carvings. It has a shaped top, Ogee profiled columns, Lion Paw carved feet, great crisp moldings and a birds eye maple paneled back interior.

The bookcase was totally professionally restored at a very great expense and is something very special. It is laid out in a split case format with four glass adjustable shelves on each the right and left sides. It measures a commanding 48 1/2" wide x 14 1/2" deep and is 67 tall and has its original nice wavy glass doors. The interior right and left compartments are each 22" wide and 11" deep.

The inside interior height is 60. We are a wholly owned family business in our third decade of continuous operation. We have expert woodworkers and re-finishers on staff to service any piece of furniture we offer. We represent all merchandise in absolute good faith and to the very best of our ability.
