Very nice smaller size (it could fit underneath a window) circa 1900 "Gunn" two stack quarter-sawn tiger oak barrister bookcase. The Gunn name is stamped on the inside back panel of one of the sections.
The back of the cap still has the partial paper label with triangle for "Grand Rapids" furniture as these were manufactured in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm dating this to 1900 because the top or cap is solid oak with no veneer.
When you turn the top upside down the wood grain matches the top side. This cap piece is HEAVY! As time went on veneers were used on the tops as quarter-sawn oak and all furniture woods became more expensive as the forest's were being depleted by the Industrial Revolution of the late 1800's. You get 4 pieces with this bookcase. The top, the two window sections, and the base. This bookcase could be transported in just about any size car. Each bookcase section is 10" deep inside and one stack is 11" tall while the other is 9 tall giving you versatility with book size. The overall height of this piece is 32 1/2", 34 18" wide and 12 1/4 deep. As of the beginning of Sept. My customers are very happy with the product I provide. I look for nice examples that will fit in any household. Please check out the other barrister's I have listed. I probably have a size you want.
