ANTIQUE GRAND RAPIDS MAGICAL Quartersawn Tiger Oak BARRISTER LAWYERS BOOKCASE

  

Beautiful, vibrant quartersawn, tiger oak Grand Rapids 4 stack barrister bookcase. This style barrister is known as either, Waterfall, Bullnose or Ogee due to the graceful curves of the top and bottom. I'm dating this "magical" bookcase to 1900.

By using the word "magical" I mean that this barrister bookcase can be moved in one whole piece or it can be broken down entirely to 4 glass door sections and a pile of boards 34" wide and about 15" tall. This bookcase will fit inside a Mini Cooper coupe! She said, "Oh no, this bookcase doesn't come apart". When she bought it from a dealer 20 years ago they took off the doors and put the whole bookcase in the back of their minivan.

Each of the four bookcase sections has a Grand Rapids label on the inside backboards. Why would they have done that if this was one piece.

I got it home and started monkeying with the top and sure enough it started to SLIDE forward. Once I got the top off I slid up the back panel and then was able to slide off the side panels and the shelf which are in a track. The side panels are pushed onto the shelf with just friction sort of like with Lego's.

You repeat this step all the way down to the bottom. Since all of the four sections is a different size you don't have to worry about what section you are putting together because all of the side supports are a different height. On top of all this the base has wheels to move the whole bookcase around if you need to. This bookcase predates the Globe Wernicke's and Macey's barristers.

Please look at all of the pictures. If you message me I can send you more pictures. The tiger oak really stands out on the sides! The bottom section is 13 1/2 tall.

Next up is a section 11 1/2" tall followed by 9 1/2" tall and the top section is 7 1/2 tall giving you great flexibility in your book storage needs. All of the interiors are 10 1/4 deep. Overall it is 61 1/8" tall, 34 1/8" wide and 14 1/4 deep. My happy customers are up and down the Mid-Atlantic area and some are looking for another bookcase.
