Antique Red Leather & Brass High Back Tiger Oak Dining Chairs, Set of Two. These late 19th - early 20th century side chairs were hand-planed and assembled in the Aesthetic Movement style prevalent at that time.
The frames, cut from quarter sawn or tiger oak, are very angular with some fluting and excised carving on the volutes on the serpentine front legs. The stretcher bars are straight and the back legs are done in a saber style with block feet. There is no cross bar which is an unusual design feature and the chairs are upholstered in smooth brilliant red leather, held in place with large high-copper bronze nails. The most ornate portion of the chairs is the spindled side rail crests and the arched crest rail. These chairs measure 41" high, 18 1/2" wide, 18" deep, and have a seat height of 18". They weigh approximately 8 lbs. These chairs have their original upholstery and springs.
There is some noticeable wear to the springs of one of the chairs and the cotton straps. The leather has also seen better days and there are several brass accents missing from one chair. There are actually four chairs in this set available. The remaining two need more significant updating to the seat and springs than these two, thus they were split. These chairs are ideal candidates for re-upholstery as their frames are gorgeous and in good condition.
