Mission Furniture Chair and Settee Tiger Oak Slat back Early 1900's

  
From the last quarter of the 19th century into the 1920's tiger oak was quite popular and produced throughout. Tiger oak comes from quarter sawn oak that reveals the growth rings of the wood. Chair is in great condition. Original chair bottom and springs were removed and replaced with wood and foam padding. Settee has damage on arms and top corners (See Photos). There was no seat in it when I got it, so I built a wood bottom with foam padding. Both pieces have been refurbished and upholstered. They were finished off with an oak stain and polyurethane coat. Dimensions: Chair is 30" wide 37" tall and 24 front to back. Settee is 61" long, 37" tall and 26 front to back. Original purchaser said it was a Stickley, but it does not have any markings on the wood. Could have had a sticker on the bottom, but did not have a bottom when I acquired them.

The "Tomahawk" thru tenons are a dead giveaway. Stickley didn't have them. They were an early, direct competitor of the Stickley's. Well designed, well made furniture, circa 1910.
